A few weeks ago we threw a gender reveal party with our close friends and family and we’re super excited to find out we’re having a boy! Since many of you have requested some baby related posts I decided to show you some tips for throwing a low key gender reveal party, there’s free printables too! Check out the video below or read along to see how we threw it together on a budget.

Dollar Store Decor
You don’t need to go all out on decorations, but it can be nice to have little touches of pink and blue, or whatever theme you choose. You’ll save tons of money if you opt for some simple dollar store decor. We picked up some blue and pink napkins, paper plates, paper cups, and tablecloths and only spent 20ish.
Pot Luck
Pot lucks are a great way to keep things simple while keeping everyone fed. In my experience, everyone is more than willing to bring a dish to any kind of gathering, and you always end up with a great assortment and way more food than you need.
Choose How to Reveal
There are so many different ways to do a reveal. You could have a box that drops or releases balloons and confetti, cut a cake, or do cupcakes like we did. I really liked doing cupcakes because it was a great way to get everyone involved and to find out at the exact same time.
Grocery Store Cake/Cupcakes
After we knew we were going to do cupcakes I shopped around online to see where I should order them. Many local bakeries had some very beautiful designs, but holy crap they could get expensive! At roughly $40 a dozen, it was too impractical for us with our guest list of 20ish people. Someone had mentioned Thrifty Foods and I’m so glad I checked them out. They did a great job, and it was around $25 for 2 dozen!
Have Something Fun
Make sure to have something fun for your guests to do. We chose to make things interesting with a couple betting pools, one for guessing if it was a boy or girl, and another ongoing one to guess the birthdate. You can get the cute free printables here. You could also do name suggestions or a diaper raffle. There’s tons of ideas on Pinterest.
Take Pictures
Don’t forget to take pictures! Make sure to get a good group shot of you and all of your guests. It’s always a great idea to film your reveal. We set up my camera on a tripod to record everyone’s reactions, but you could also set up your phone on something to catch yours and your partner’s reactions.
There ya have it, some tips for throwing a low key gender reveal party where your guests are sure to have a lot of fun. Make sure to check out the free printables for the fun game too!
