In this post I’m bringing you back to basic with showing you 7 tips for curling your hair. You can also keep your hair in tip top shape by using these 5 tips for maintaining healthy hair.
I have received these products for free in exchange for writing a post, and although sponsored I maintain creative control. You can see my disclosure policy for more information.
Tip #1 Use the Right Amount of Heat
Use higher heat if you have thicker and/or healthier hair, and use lower heat if you have thin and/or damaged hair.
*Lower temperature doesn’t always mean it’s better for you hair. If you’re having to hold hold heat to your hair for longer than 10 seconds than the heat is too low. You end up damaging your hair more because of the increased exposure to heat.
Tip #2 Twist Your Hair the Right Way
Twist your hair around the barrel in the right way to achieve the curl you want. Yes that may sound confusing, I’m not very good at explaining it, but this pin shows you all of the different ways you can wrap your hair around the barrel to achieve the kind of curl you are looking for. There is also this pin that shows you the different types of curls you can achieve depending on the type of curling wand/tool that you use.
Tip #3 Curl Your Hair in Alternating Directions
Alternate curling your hair clockwise and counter clockwise to achieve a natural, curled look. If you curl all of your hair in the same direction all of your hair will be one giant wave, rather than piecey, curled hair.
Tip #4 Cool Your Curl in Your Hand
To help your hair hold it’s curl longer hold the curl in your hand for approximately 7 seconds to let it cool down.
Tip #5 Curl Face Framing Pieces Away From Your Face
Keep your face open and free of pesky hairs by curling your face framing pieces away from your face.
Tip #6 Twirl and Clip Your Curled Hair Out of the Way
Twirl your curled hair and clip it out of the way. This will help to hold the curl and it gets your finished pieces out of your way.
Tip #7 Brush it Out Before You Curl It
Make sure to brush out any knots before you curl your hair.

Thanks for the tips! I curl my hair almost 3 times a week, but on some days the curls just don’t hold that long. So thanks for the tip of cooling the curl in your hand. I’m going to try that next time!
