Thieves Household Cleaner has become the only cleaner we use in our household. I love that one bottle will make all of these Thieves cleaning recipes so you can wash everything from your fruits and veggies to your floors, mirrors, and bathtub. Yes, you actually can use the same product to clean your produce as you can to clean your bathroom. It’s non-toxic while still getting the cleaning job done.

Cleaning supplies are one of the most toxic things in our household, in fact they add to the air pollution in our homes and have been linked to serious health problems including asthma and fetal development. Basically, it’s not something you want to expose yourself or your family to. As I researched more and more about how terrible these common cleaning products are I knew I had to do a ditch and switch.

I started with our laundry cleaners as those cleaners seep into our clothes which lie on our skin all day long (I talk a little bit about our natural laundry routine in this post with 10 Laundry Hacks). Next up was cleaning supplies because I was really concerned about my son taking baths in a tub cleaned with chemicals – eek! I found the best way of switching over all of our cleaning supplies was by simplifying to Thieves Household Cleaner so that everything I cleaned my house with was completely non-toxic and safe to touch my families skin and dissipate in the air of our family home.

It doesn’t take much to do the switch. You’ll want to purchase a few amber glass spray bottles which I have linked below (the dark amber protects the composition of the cleaner from light) as well as some Thieves Household Cleaner and essential oils. After you have those basic supplies you’ll need a few household items to make these 6 Thieves cleaning recipes. All of them are ones that I personally use on a regular basis including a bathroom cleaner, tub scrubber, multi-purpose cleaner, glass mirrors and floors cleaner, mattress cleaner, and produce soak.

6 Thieves Cleaning Recipes

6 DIY Thieves cleaner recipes that are easy to make, safe for your family, and effective at cleaning your home.

Bathroom Cleaner

This Thieves Bathroom Cleaner recipe works great! You could use the Multi-Purpose Cleaner listed below, but I feel better using the extra oomph of castile soap, peroxide, and essential oils when cleaning the slightly ickier bathroom.

Ingredients

  • 1 capful Thieves Household Cleaner
  • 2 tbsp Castile Soap
  • 6 oz Peroxide
  • 4 drops Lavender
  • 4 drops Lemon
  • Water
  • 16 oz Glass Amber Bottle

Instructions

  1. Add first 5 ingredients to the spray bottle. Fill to the top with water and mix around. Give the bottle a bit of a shake before each use.

Tub Scrubber

This Thieves Tub Scrubber Recipe is basically the same as the above Bathroom Cleaner, but more concentrated by being bottled in a usual dish scrubber. I also use more castile soap and no water because it makes the consistency much thicker and less likely to leak out of the handle, although I do recommend storing with the scrubber end pointed up so you don’t get any leaks.

I really like using the dish scrubber with the soap handle in the tub because it makes it super easy to stay on top of cleaning. If I ever notice anything while I’m in the shower I give it a quick scrub and make it nice and clean. The only thing I wash with our tub when I do the full bathroom clean is our non-slip mat because it’s a bit more time-consuming cleaning between all of the suction cups.

Ingredients

  • 1 capful Thieves Household Cleaner
  • 6 oz Peroxide
  • 4 drops Lavender
  • 4 drops Lemon
  • Castile Soap
  • Dish Scrubber with a Handle You Can Store Soap

Instructions

  1. Add first 4 ingredients in the handle of the dish scrubber. Fill to the top with castile soap and swish around. Store upright in the shower and shake before use.

Multi-Purpose Cleaner

This is your basic clean everything Thieves Multi-Purpose Cleaner. It works on practically everything. If you’re ever┬áconcerned about how it may react or if it’ll eat away at a surface, I recommend doing a spot test in an inconspicuous area and not letting it soak for very long. It can clean vinyl fabric, but if you leave it on too long it will eat away at the fabric. It also works great on stone countertops, but again wipe it off right away with water or else it can eat away at the surface, as with pretty much any cleaner.

Ingredients

  • 1 capful Thieves Household Cleaner
  • Water
  • 16 oz Amber Glass Spray Bottle

Instructions

  1. Add a capful of thieves household cleaner to spray bottle. Fill to the top with water and swish. Lightly shake before use. Spray down the surface and wipe off with a damp cloth.

Glass, Mirrors, and Floors Cleaner

This Thieves Glass, Mirrors, and Floors Cleaner Recipe adds the cleaning power of vinegar and essential oils to help you achieve that streak-free clean. You can add essential oils of your choice, but a nice lemon pine blend is a favourite for hardwood floors. I also really like using Citrus Fresh.

Ingredients

  • 1 capful Thieves Household Cleaner
  • 1 tsp Vinegar
  • 5 drops Essential Oils - I recommend either 3 drops of lemon and 3 drops of Pine, or 5 drops of Citrus Fress
  • Water
  • 16 oz Glass Amber Spray Bottle

Instructions

  1. Add first 3 ingredients to a spray bottle. Fill to the top with water and swish. Give bottle a shake before use.

Mattress Cleaner

This Mattress Cleaner Recipe is more concentrated than the above cleaning recipes and uses essential oils to help clean those fabric household items that you can’t physically wash. Great for mattresses and drapes.

Ingredients

  • 1 capful Thieves Household Cleaner
  • 15 drops Purification Essential Oil
  • 5 drops Lavender Essential Oil
  • 5 drops Tea Tree Essential Oil
  • Water
  • 2 oz Amber Glass Spray Bottle

Instructions

  1. Add first 4 ingredients to spray bottle. Top with water and swish. Give the bottle a shake before use and spray over fabric surface.

Fruit and Veggie Soak

This Fruit and Veggies Soak is my most used thieves cleaning recipe. Every time I come back from the grocery store I immediately wash all of my produce and you can really tell the difference compared to cleaning with water. With all of the different lettuce and produce recalls going on for different possible contaminations, I feel much better feeding my family food that has been properly cleaned and not just rinsed with water.

I also think it speaks to how great and non-toxic Thieves Household Cleaner is. It’s strong enough to clean your tub and gentle enough to wash your fruit and veggies.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 - 1 capful Thieves Household Cleaner Use less for less veggies and smaller sinks, more if you fill your sink entirely and have larger sinks.
  • Water

Instructions

  1. Add 1/2 - 1 capful of Thieves Household Cleaner to your sink and pour in cold water. I let the sink get a couple of inches full before I start placing the produce in the sink. Fill the sink with water to cover the top of your produce.
