Lately I’ve been taking on more and more while I’m starting my digital marketing business all while blogging, working full time in a management position, and trying to enjoy just a little bit of a personal life. It’s been a lot to handle and can be completely overwhelming at times, but I couldn’t be more excited about the direction I am going and being able to see things starting to fall into place. I shared some of my struggles on Instagram and one of my blogger friends, Poorva, had mentioned that I should share some of my tips for getting everything done. So here we are sharing my tips for time management and productivity while showing off this super cute fall blanket scarf outfit.
Blanket scarves are a must have fall item for me. They can be worn in so many ways as shown in my recent how to style a blanket scarf tutorial. This piece is so chic, but still lets you be comfy and cozy – it’s basically a socially acceptable way of wearing a blanket out in public and I’m going to take full advantage of it. The base of the outfit is a basic top with some dark cuffed skinny jeans, I especially like the fall feel of this burnt orange coloured top. I accessorized the outfit with some layered necklaces and orange heels.
USE A PLANNER OR ORGANIZER
There is no way I could do everything that I do without my planner. It helps you plan out your week so you know how much time you have to do things, and helps you remember all of your appointments. It helps you plan out when you are going to do what so you can make sure you actually get things done instead of just talking about it. I’m sure you’ve heard this many times, and you may already use one, but if you don’t it’s time to get on the planner band wagon.

Maybe you’ve tried planners before and you rarely ended up using it, or perhaps you’ve used one plenty of times but in the long run you always end of falling out of it. The main reason you haven’t been consistent with it is probably because you haven’t found the right planner that suits your needs. I’ve tried many many planners of the years, but it wasn’t until just over a year ago that I finally found the right one for me. My perfect planner ended up being a Personal Planner that I was able to customize almost every aspect of the layout and covers which makes me happy and want to use it every day.
That might not be your jam though, perhaps you’ll like the simplicity of a notebook, or you like vertical columns for days compared to horizontal rows, or maybe you want to go completely custom with an Erin Condren planner, or perhaps you don’t like using paper at all and a Google Calendar might be right for you. There are lots of options out there. Keep trying until you find one that works. Trust me it’ll make everything easier, less chaotic, and you’ll be more productive.
USE A TO DO LIST AND PRIORITIZE IT
Not only do to do lists help you stay on track with your tasks, but there’s also something so satisfying about crossing things off a list which makes you more productive –I don’t know about you, but I feel great every time I cross something off my list. Every week I like to make a list of everything I need to get done. I separate my to-do list into different categories to help ensure my focus is spread across the areas I want it to be, rather than focussed on a specific area. For example, for my blogging list I like to separate it between Blog Posts, Social Media, Website Work, and Admin. Every day I look at my list and prioritize it by highlighting the tasks that I want to complete that day. I find this system to be really helpful for staying on track, getting things done, and allowing me to focus on all important aspects of the business.
SET A TIMER
Setting a timer helps you stay focused and become more productive. Some people like to set timers for the amount of time they think it will take them to do the task. Other’s like to set them for blocking time in between short breaks. I like to set shorter timers 20 – 40 minutes. The reason I opt for shorter timers is that I can get easily distracted on the computer. If I set it for 2 hours while I work on a blog post, I could easily spend half the time on my computer doing something completely unrelated. When I set 20 minute timers it allows me to check in with myself and refocus on my task.
Find a system that works for you. The Timer plug in for Google Chrome is a great little timer that allows you to set a custom time and remains visible while you work within Chrome. I found it makes a big difference with my productivity when I have a timer visible compared to out of site.
Multitasking will help you take your productivity to the next level. Think about tasks you can pair together and work on at the same time. If you’re going to take a picture of something for your Instagram, think of other shots you can take using similar items or showing another “story”. Spend any time you are waiting for something wisely – this is where I get a little extreme.

If I ever wait for a page to load on my web browser I flip to another tab and check my email or check my notifications. If I’m ever waiting in line anywhere I’m on social media on my phone. If you’re watching tv work on your to do lists or planner. While you’re in the shower in the morning think about the outfit you want to wear and how you want to do your hair for the day. There are so many different ways to apply multitasking. Always think about how you can make the most of your time by ordering things in a different way so you can do some of them at the same time, and make the most of any moment where you are left waiting for something.
