I am a big fan of drugstore makeup. As much as it’s nice to splurge at the beauty counter, I feel like you can find similar products for a fraction of the price at drugstores. It might take a bit of trial and error, but it’s fun to try out new products, and it’s a lot easier on the bank account, and if you don’t like the trial and error then that’s what I’m here for 🙂 I’m also a big fan of Shoppers Drug Mart’s points program. I use their coupons whenever I shop there, and try to shop strategically to build up my points. About once a year I go on a beauty shopping spree for free. Can you believe I only paid roughly $10 for all of the stuff in the above picture!?!!
MAYBELLINE BABY SKIN PRIMER
I have been using this stuff for a couple years now because it works great. It has a nice clear gel type formula that feels really soft on your face. It minimizes the look of your pores, and makes your makeup last throughout the day. I keep trying different primers and I keep going back to this drugstore makeup favourite. It comes in a small tube, but when you compare prices and sizes to other primers it seems fair value – one trick for beauty shopping is to always look at the sizes written on the container, containers are very misleading and will make you think you get a lot more for your money than you actually do.
LOREAL TRUE MATCH COMPACT MAKEUP
I was so happy with my first purchase of the Loreal compact makeup that I went back and bought a second one. The first one is a little light for my full face, but it makes a great highlight. The colours I purchased were N2 – Neutral Classic Ivory, and the highlight shade of W1 – Warm Porcelaine.
I would say it provides medium coverage that evens out my skin tone and covers up blemishes. I’m not a big fan of full coverage, or wearing liquid foundation in general, and I really liked the formula of this drugstore makeup. It didn’t feel like it was too heavy, and it lasted throughout my work day.
QUO MULTIPURPOSE MAKEUP BRUSH
This brush is awesome! The bristles feel so soft on my skin, are the right firmness, and work great for applying the Loreal Compact Makeup. At a price point of roughly $9.99 or $14.99 you can’t go wrong.
RIMMEL ACCELERATOR ENDLESS MASCARA
This is the second time I’ve purchased this Rimmel mascara. I like using it as a second lengthening coat after I use a volumizing mascara like the Rimmel Scandal Eyes Retro Glam mascara that I talk about in my Top 10 Beauty Essentials post. It is also my go to mascara for a basic running errands look, cause this girl doesn’t leave the house without at least a bit of mascara.
RIMMEL SCANDAL EYES WATERPROOF EYELINER
I am a big fan of this kohl eyeliner, it is one of the few eye liners I use that has to be sharpened – generally I prefer self sharpening ones. This drugstore makeup goes on smooth without having to press very hard, and has a good intensity to the colour. I like using the 005 Nude colour on my bottom waterline to open up my eyes for everyday looks. The 006 Deep Blue is fun to use for evening looks.
COVERGIRL SUPER STAY 24 COLOR LIP STAIN / LIP BALM
These lippies have become an everyday essential for me. I am very low maintenance when it comes to lip colours. I don’t like having to check it in the mirror all the time and remember to reapply, and these things last all day long – it’s fantastic! The colour is very pigmented and is very true to how it looks in the tube.
This kiss proof formula has a two step process. The first step is the lip stain. Make sure you are happy with how it is applied, because it is going to last all day long. Let the lip stain dry before moving to step 2, it’ll probably feel slightly sticky at this point. Once dry you apply the lip balm. This sets everything and leaves your lips feely glossy and smooth. If you are like me and want low maintenance, long lasting, kiss proof lip products then I highly recommend trying the Covergirl Super Stay 24 Colour. They are reasonably priced between $7 – $15 depending on where you go, and if you can find it on sale or not. Shoppers Drug Mart also has a very wide selection of colours to choose from.
The colours pictured, in clockwise order, starting with the coral are: 041 Committed Coral, 035 Keep it Red, 125 So Sienna, 080 Infinite Pearl, and 145 Constant Cocoa.
OLAY EYE ROLLER
This is the one purchase I wasn’t very happy with. I was wanting some sort of anti-aging product that would keep the skin around my eyes firm, and expected to feel some sort of tightness after using it. I haven’t noticed any difference at all after using the eye roller, it didn’t do anything. I am still on my search for an anti aging product for the eyes, so if you know of any please let me know in the comments below.
QUO CLEANSING FACE WIPES
These are my holy grail face wipes. I keep trying other kinds of cleansing face wipes whenever I see a different brand on sale, but none of them have been able to compare to Quo’s cleansing face wipes. The cloth itself has a nice soft texture that is almost quilted in a way. The cleansing product in the wipes works great for removing makeup and leaving the skin feeling refreshed. These wipes do their job right, and feel great on the face. They are normally priced at $9.99 and can only be found at Shoppers Drug Mart, and most the time you can find them with a 10 x the points offer, and this girl is a total sucker for Shoppers Drug Mart points. I use these face wipes after a workout, or on those nights I’m feeling too lazy for a full face wash.
All and all I’m really happy with all of the drugstore makeup products that I got to try out, and I am still super excited that I was able to get everything for roughly $10 with my points. The Covergirl Super Stay 24 Color lippies are my new favourite beauty product. After I tried one I ended up buying 5 more colours! I also highly recommend trying out the Quo face wipes, you won’t regret it. If you enjoyed this post, then you would probably enjoy looking at my Top 10 Beauty Essentials post from a couple months ago. I also love hearing about new products, so please leave me a comment below of some of your favourite drugstore makeup.
Until next time,
