Summer is the season of camping. There’s something special about spending time with your friends and family in the outdoors having fun with each other and living a simpler, hopefully unplugged kind of life. Camping can also be a lot of work to get everything ready and make sure you have everything you need.
I’m a huge camper and have learned a lot over the years in finding ways to make things easier. This list of 10 camping hacks are all things that I have tried, generally use on a regular basis, and actually work.
PS. I’ve also put together a super quick 10 questions survey that I would love your feedback on. All entrants will be entered into a giveaway <3 Fill out the survey now.
Keep Your Toilet Paper Dry
One of my friends brought this coffee can toilet paper to a camping trip and I was amazed! It’s super easy to make and keeps your toiled paper clean and dry. Poke some holes and run some twine through each end of the coffee can so you can hang it anywhere. Cut a horizontal opening so you can pull the toilet paper through it and you are good to go!
Prep Your Food
I would honestly say this is the best out of all of these camping hacks and something I do before every single trip. Prep as much of your food as possible so you can completely relax and enjoy yourself while you’re camping.
Pre-chop all of your food, and if you have onions make sure to keep them in a container rather than a ziploc. A ziploc full of onions will stink up your cooler, just trust me and stick with a sealed container. Pre-cook any meat, except hot dogs of course. If you want hashbrowns with your breakfast pre-boil your potatoes. Again, trust me, you’ll save soooooo much on cook time.
There are so many great camping recipes that are easy to prep, so delicious, and save your gut from eating hot dogs throughout the whole trip. If you’d like a post on camping recipes let me know in the comments below, and you can also find some recipes I’ve pinned on Pinterest.

Keep Your Eggs Safe
There’s nothing worse than finding out that your eggs have broken and you have gross egg all over everything in your cooler, yuck! Save yourself the hassle by storing eggs in a hard plastic container. Don’t have a good egg container? Break your eggs into a water bottle and mark on the side the level for every two eggs.
Keep Your Food Dry
Keep your food dry and save money buying ice by using water bottles as ice packs. We have the same bottles we use trip after trip that are designated as ice packs. We also fill a new 4 litre milk jug full of water each trip to use as ice cold drinking water as it melts.
Get Your Morning Cup of Joe
Need your morning coffee, but don’t have a percolator? Create coffee bags out of coffee filters and dental floss. Steep just as you would tea.
Wash Dishes Easily
Doing dishes while camping sucks! Make it suck a little less by using a dish scrubber with dish soap in the handle and hunkering down by the watering hole with a cushioned knee pad from the dollar store. $5 will make this dreaded process so much easier! #winning
Spice Up Your Food
Add a little flavour and spice to your food without having to pack up your whole kitchen. Pour some of your favourite spices into tic tac containers so you can use some spice without taking up too much space.
