Braided Hairstyles 30 Ways

As many of you know, I’m slightly braid obsessed. Once you get to learn your foundation like basic, dutch, french, waterfall and fishtail there are so many different styles you can do with them. They’re so versatile and it’s easy to do something slightly different each time. I’ve mastered most of the basics, but am still working on that waterfall braid so I can bring you guys an awesome tutorial that will help you with the struggle. Below is a collection of braids that I’ve featured on my Instagram over the past couple of months. Some of them have links to tutorial,s others have brief descriptions. So please pin away and save for future inspiration, and if you’re interested in learning more from a tutorial about any of these, or any other braid, please leave a comment below and I’ll see what I can do to help.

#1 FISHTAIL PONYTAIL WITH SOME EDGE

I really enjoyed trying this fishtail ponytail out. I wanted to add an extra twist to #26 so I decided to add a french fishtail to the side. This look is perfect for cool casual, or to rock the night away. Check out this fishtail braid tutorial for tips to recreate this braid.

#2 DUTCH WRAP AROUND BRAID INTO A PONY

This pretty hairstyle was perfect for the wedding I attended last weekend. I added some extra glam by pinning some pearl ended bobby pins within the braid as it wrapped around my head. Embellished bobby pins are a great way of dressing up any hairstyle.

#3 TRI DUTCH BRAIDS INTO A BUN

This is a great spin on my #7 usual single dutch braid into a bun. Once you have dutch braids down pat this is a quick and easy hairstyle to do. It took me 2 minutes per braid, 8 minutes in total to complete the look.

#4 PULL THROUGH BRAIDED UPDO

This beautiful style was very popular on Instagram, and is surprisingly easy to do. The braid is completed using elastics with only a few bobby pins to secure the ends in place. This is a great beginner hairstyle because you can stop and figure out what you’re don’t without worrying about the braid falling apart or the pieces getting mixed up.

#5 HALF UP BOHEMIAN BRAIDED HAIRSTYLE

As you can probably tell from my last Trendy Tuesday (Feathers and Stones), and the Trendy Tuesday before that (Suede and Tassels) I’ve been really into adding a bohemian feel to my outfits and this hairstyle adds the perfect hint of boho to any look.

#6 TRI DUTCH BRAIDED MOHAWK

This type of hairstyle is my go to for any type of fitness event, like my most recent Women2Warrior obstacle course race. It keeps your hair secure and out of your face, and it looks awesome too! Extra plus you get killer waves that work great for styles like #5 above.

#7 DUTCH BRAID INTO A TOP KNOT

This is one of my quick go to’s. It’s great when you’re in a rush, and perfect for the gym. Check out this tutorial for a half up version of this hairstyle.

#8 HALF UP WATERFALL BRAID

This was my first attempt at a waterfall braid, and they’re trickier than I thought they would be. I’m going to keep at it so I can bring you a tutorial soon!

My first attempt at a watefall braid. Not quite right, but pretty darn good for winging it. I’ll have it mastered by next week ?

#9 CLASSIC FRENCH BRAID

French braids are perfect for styling wet hair when you either don’t want to use heat on your hair, or you’re just in a rush. The style still looks put together, even with wet hair, and when you let it out either later in the day, or the next day, you have beautiful wavy hair.

#10 BRAIDED DUTCH BRAID INTO AN UPDO

I have fallen in love with this pretty hairstyle! It works best on dirty hair making this look perfect for 2, 3, or 4 day hair – I wash my hair with shampoo roughly 3 times every 2 weeks and it’s rebounded very quickly after an unfortunate dye job that left it completed fried.

#11 BRAIDED HEADBAND

This cheater braided headband is perfect for lazy days when you still want to dress up your hair a bit with minimal effort. @JustBraydzByChaya has some great pieces that make beautiful hairstyles easy.

#12 DUTCH BRAIDED PIGTAILS

These braids have been gaining popularity and I see why. They’re super cute, and keep your hair tucked away – another perfect style for the gym. I like to take them up a notch like I did for #19.

#13 DOUBLE BRAIDS INTO A PONYTAIL

This is another great twist on a braided ponytail, and it’s fairly simple to do. It uses a basic braid starting from each side of your head. Once you have your braids bring all your hair back into a ponytail, secure, and wrap the braids around the base.

Another pull though braid similar to #14, but even simpler. Try this one out if you’re starting out with braids, or want to try something new.

#19 CORNROW/BOXER BRAIDED PIGTAILS

This is my favourite version of braided pigtails. It’s fun and adds a bit of edge all while keeping everything out of your face. It’s perfect for everyday, working out, or even a night out.

#20 DOUBLE DUTCH BRAIDED HEADBAND

This hairstyle screams fall for me. Can’t you picture it with a sweater dress and plaid scarf with some leggings and knee high boots? Cue the #PSL.

#26 FISHTAIL PONYTAIL

Yes, another version of a fishtail ponytail.

#27 TWISTED FRENCH STYLE “BRAID”

The twists add a great element to this hairstyle. It’s also another fabulous way to style wet hair leaving it nice and wavy after.

#28 DUTCH BRAID INTO A BRAIDED ROSE

This was my first attempt at a braided rose and it didn’t come out quite as well as I would have liked, but I seemed to have mastered it fairly well by the time I tried #23.

#29 HALF UP STYLE WITH A BRAIDED HEADBAND

This is a slightly more dressed up version of #11 and another showcase of the great pieces by @BraydzByChaya.

Another cute style featuring @justbraydzbychaya These hair pieces are so cute and easy to use!
